GEOCACHING:   A NEW WAY TO SAY
“WELCOME TO OSAGE COUNTY”

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.  The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.  Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

These are the steps to create a cache:

1. You will need a watertight container in which you place a log book and some of your treasures, such as small toys, pencils, pens, souvenir items, coloring books, etc.
The person that discovers your cache takes an item out and replaces it with something of equal value.

2. Place the cache in a place that it will not be disturbed, but can easily be found on the hunt.

3. Register your cache on line at www.geocaching.com. It is easy to do! Just follow the directions on the website.

:: Geocaching was started in May of 2000. Today there are 716,317 active caches around the world. There are already 105 caches in Osage County, in a 25 mile radius of Linn. ::
